The concert was on the weekend.
Su Ci started getting ready early. Although the main purpose was to save someone, it still counted as a day she was going on a date with Lu Zhe. She absolutely would not allow herself to be sloppy or go out dressed casually.
She changed into a white dress. The dress was sleeveless, with a pleated hem, like a sporty little skirt, barely reaching her knees. She wore a pair of white sneakers on her feet, and tied her hair into a ponytail with a light yellow ribbon.
She was clearly a pure, youthful girl, but Su Ci’s features were striking. The small tear mole at the corner of her eye added a hint of allure—pure yet tempting.
She had just stepped out of her room when she happened to see Ji Chi coming out at the same time. He was carrying a black backpack and was also preparing to go out.
Su Ci instinctively glanced at his wrist, only to see that the life value on Ji Chi’s hand had only one week left.
“Today is Sunday. Are you still going to your part-time job?” Su Ci took the initiative to ask.
Ji Chi nodded. “Mm.”
Su Ci felt that in some ways, Ji Chi really was a bit like Lu Zhe. Both of them spoke very little. “I heard from Mom that you work at a milk tea shop during the day. What about at night?”
Facing the girl’s clear, watery black-and-white eyes, Ji Chi instinctively lowered his gaze. He softly answered her question, “A bar.”
He worked as a waiter in a bar at night. That wasn’t something shameful.
There was no disdain or strange emotion in Su Ci’s eyes. She said, “Bars can be pretty chaotic sometimes. Be careful while you’re working. If you run into any trouble, you can ask Uncle Li for help.”
Uncle Li was the Su family’s butler and had served the family for many years. Outsiders more or less gave him some respect.
Ji Chi looked at her in slight surprise and nodded in agreement.
Su Mother was arranging a flower vase in the living room. Seeing Su Ci and Ji Chi coming down the stairs at the same time, both looking like they were heading out, she asked, “Cici, you and Xiao Chi are going out?”
Even though it was already past four in the afternoon, the sun outside was still scorching and the heat oppressive.
Su Ci smiled and told Su Mother, “I made plans with a friend to watch a concert tonight.”
Ji Chi also spoke, “Auntie Su, I’m working a night shift today.”
Only then did Su Mother realize she had misunderstood. “Alright, come home early.” She worriedly reminded her daughter, “There will be a lot of people at the concert. Be careful.”
“Mom, don’t worry. Gege sent a lot of bodyguards and staff to the concert venue. There won’t be any problems.”
After Su Ci promised she would take care of herself, Su Mother finally let them go.
Lu Zhe’s car had already arrived outside.
Seeing the girl walk out of the Su house with Ji Chi beside her—bright and beautiful next to a tall, slender, handsome boy—the two walking together were eye-catching.
Lu Zhe’s gaze darkened.
He thought of the medical report from his hospital check-up today. Slowly withdrawing his gaze, the hand hanging at his side felt slightly numb.
“Did you wait long?” Su Ci opened the car door and got in, finally escaping the heat clinging to her body.
The August weather was still blazing hot. Just walking outside for a short while was enough to make someone sweat.
Lu Zhe’s skin was cool. When Su Ci scooted closer and sat next to him, their arms touching, she could feel his coldness.
Sensing the warmth from her body, Lu Zhe’s fingertips regained feeling. He inserted a straw into a cup of lemon water and handed it to her. “No.”
Su Ci took a sip—icy and refreshing—and felt much better.
She looked at the white bandages still wrapped around Lu Zhe’s hand and felt a little distressed. “Did you change the dressing today?”
“Mm, I changed it.” Lu Zhe naturally took the drink from the girl’s hand and casually placed it on the armrest beside him.
Su Ci rested her hand on Lu Zhe’s bandaged one, lightly hooking his fingers.
Her brother’s arm injury was already mostly healed, but Lu Zhe’s wound was too deep. It would take at least another month for it to recover.
“When your hand gets better, I’ll go with you to have the bandages removed.” Su Ci said with a smile.
Lu Zhe used his other hand to clasp her restless little hand in his palm. “Mm.”
The concert started at seven-thirty in the evening.
Since they left early, Su Ci and Lu Zhe arrived after having dinner.
By the time they reached the venue entrance, the outside was already packed with a sea of people. Fans were holding glow sticks and support lights as they waited to enter. Many who hadn’t managed to buy tickets were haggling with scalpers.
Su Ci and Lu Zhe walked through the VIP entrance. Knowing she would be coming, a person in charge had long been waiting to receive her.
“Miss Su.” The person in charge had received a call from his superior earlier, informing him that the little princess of the Su family was coming. He had been waiting in advance.
Now, seeing Su Ci, he couldn’t help but sigh—sure enough, the Su family’s looks were exceptional.
“Miss Su, you may enter now.” The person in charge respectfully led the way.
Su Ci held Lu Zhe’s hand and headed inside. Seeing her hand-in-hand with the young man beside her, the person in charge was shocked, but did not dare look too much or say anything.
Su Ci and Lu Zhe’s seats were arranged in the frontmost center of the VIP section, offering the best view and the best stage effects.
Su Ci had already instructed people to repeatedly check every part of the stage, front and back.
“Is Zheng Hao backstage? I want to see him.” Su Ci turned her head and said to Lu Zhe, “Wait for me here for a bit. I’ll be right back.”
Once she confirmed that the stage had no issues, she needed to check Zheng Hao’s life value.
Lu Zhe knew that today’s concert was for this male artist called Zheng Hao, the one Su Ci kept mentioning. He didn’t know when she had started chasing stars.
He didn’t say anything more and simply watched the girl follow the person in charge toward the backstage.
Backstage, it was full of performers for the concert’s dance numbers. Everyone was busy with makeup, changing outfits, and the place was chaotic.
The person in charge shielded Su Ci as they walked inside, preventing others from bumping into her. “Miss Su, Zheng Hao’s dressing room is further in. He should be getting his makeup done.”
When they reached the door, the person in charge knocked.
Then he turned the knob, and immediately a heated argument sounded from inside.
Zheng Hao was leaning back in his chair, raising a brow at his manager. “I don’t agree. It’s my concert—I decide. My performance doesn’t need anyone telling me what to do.”
His manager had a headache. “Didn’t we agree during yesterday’s rehearsal? And the results were great. The wire harness is for your safety.”
Zheng Hao pushed away the makeup artist’s hand trying to fix his makeup. He insisted, “I refuse. The effect with wire suspension won’t achieve the stunning impact I want. Qi-ge, during all these rehearsals, I haven’t made a single mistake. You should have more confidence in your artist.”
“Zheng Hao, this is the company’s order.” The manager looked troubled.
Of course he had confidence in Zheng Hao, and he knew that during the many rehearsals, Zheng Hao had never made an error. But for Zheng Hao’s safety, the company required him to use wire suspension for such dangerous stunts.
Zheng Hao shrugged. “It’s fine. During the concert, I’m the one who decides. After the concert, I’ll explain it to the company.”
Zheng Hao knew the company meant well, but he was someone who pursued perfection. He wanted his first concert to amaze and satisfy his fans.
At that moment, the dressing room door was pushed open.
Zheng Hao and the others inside looked over, only to see the person in charge standing at the doorway—and beside him, a breathtakingly beautiful girl.
The girl’s fair, lovely face carried a hint of coldness.
The manager quickly restrained his expression and said to the person in charge, “Zheng Hao is in the middle of makeup. He’ll be available for photos later.”
He was used to seeing wealthy daughters chasing stars, but he hadn’t expected the one who came today to be Miss Su herself.
Su Ci’s gaze landed on Zheng Hao’s wrist. His life value had only one hour left. Clearly, it wasn’t an issue with the stage itself—something was going to happen during the performance.
She had looked into the flow of Zheng Hao’s concert and knew that one of his acts involved performing a backflip on a lifting platform. Such a high-difficulty move, combined with such a dangerous setup, was obviously the cause of his impending accident.
That was why she had told her brother to give orders that during this part of the performance, Zheng Hao must be suspended with wires to ensure safety.
Su Ci spoke to Zheng Hao: “When you perform the backflip, you must use the wire suspension.”
Zheng Hao had seen Su Ci once at the program team. Her face was unforgettable at a single glance, and in the past two days the Su family’s young lady had been frequently trending online.
Zheng Hao had already changed into his performance outfit. He wore a loose black sweater threaded with shimmering gold fibers, the neckline cut low to reveal vague lines of muscle across his chest. He wore black leather pants below, paired with black boots—sexy and handsome.
His bangs had been styled back, fully revealing his striking face. The eyeliner made him look seductive with a hint of allure.
There was a reason Zheng Hao was so popular.
He raised a brow at Su Ci, a roguish smile tugging at his lips. “Miss Su, are you worried about me?”
Su Ci ignored the flirtatious look he threw at her. “You have to follow the company’s arrangement.”
Zheng Hao curled his lips. “Everything in the concert is decided by me.”
Su Ci frowned. If not for needing to save up golden cotton candy for Lu Zhe, she wouldn’t bother with someone as stubborn as he was.
“You may be confident in yourself, but the company needs absolute safety. If something happens to you during the concert, the company will be implicated because of your willfulness.”
