Su Ci was furious. She threw her phone aside and lay on the bed, her chest aching and sour. She felt that Lu Zhe was harder and colder than a rock—at least a rock could be warmed, but the more she tried to warm Lu Zhe, the colder he became.
How could someone be this infuriating?
Ah, she was so angry that her whole body felt like it was on fire!
At that moment, inside Su father and Su mother’s room—
Earlier, during Lu Zhe’s examinations, Su mother had specifically instructed someone to obtain some of Lu Zhe’s hair.
Su father said to Su mother, “The test results will come out tomorrow morning.”
“If Lu Zhe is a child of the Lu family, that would be a good thing. After all, he suffered a lot in the past.” Su mother felt both gratitude and guilt toward Lu Zhe.
Su father nodded. Putting aside his dislike for Lu Chen, helping this boy find his biological family would be a repayment for the life-saving grace Lu Zhe had given the Su family.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Su mother opened it and saw her daughter standing outside. “Cici, what’s wrong?”
“Mom, I have something I want to talk to you about,” Su Ci said.
“What is it? If you’re talking to your mom, your dad can’t hear it?” From inside, Su father laughed and asked.
“This is a secret between me and Mom.” Su Ci pulled Su mother out.
After the door closed, the hallway became quiet.
Su Ci spoke directly to her mother. “Mom, I told you before that I like Lu Zhe.”
Su mother’s heart tightened. She knew immediately that Lu Zhe must have said something to her daughter.
Su Ci’s fair little face was serious. “But I never told you this—if I miss the chance with Lu Zhe, I might never like anyone else again.”
“Cici!” Su mother stared at her daughter in shock.
“Since I was young, whenever I liked something, someone would bring it to me.” Whether before or after transmigrating, whatever she wanted was always placed before her. But for the first time in her life, she was yearning for something—she was yearning for Lu Zhe.
“Mom, I like Lu Zhe. I hope you won’t stop us.” Su Ci’s black eyes were steady and sincere. “Because you can’t stop me.”
“Cici!” This time, Su mother was truly stunned.
Just like she said—her daughter had always gotten whatever she wanted. This was the first time she had so firmly declared she wanted Lu Zhe.
“If it’s because of Lu Zhe’s ALS, that’s not a problem.” Su Ci didn’t know how to explain. “No matter what happens with his illness, no matter how long he has left, I still want to be with him.”
“But he will die.” Su mother finally understood her daughter wasn’t just talking casually—she truly liked Lu Zhe. “If he dies, what will you do?”
If Lu Zhe died, and Cici liked him this deeply… would she do something foolish because of him? That was what Su mother had always feared.
Su Ci retorted, “He won’t die, I can…”
The words reached her lips, but no sound came out. A wave of powerlessness washed over her.
Hearing her daughter’s naïve reply, Su mother gently stroked her head and comforted her, “Cici, Mom knows you like Lu Zhe, but Lu Zhe told me he doesn’t like you.”
She trusted Lu Zhe’s character. Since he promised her he would stay away from Su Ci, he would do it.
Su mother’s words were like an invisible knife stabbing into Su Ci’s chest. She suddenly remembered the things Lu Zhe had said in the video earlier, and she couldn’t speak anymore.
Unable to bear seeing her daughter’s disappointed expression, Su mother gently smoothed her hair and whispered, “Cici, you’ll meet someone you like even more in the future.”
Su Ci muffled a rebuttal, “I won’t.” Leaving that behind, she walked away.

The next day, after receiving the test results, Su father went straight to Lu Corporation.
Lu Chen sat behind his office desk, leaning lazily against the chair, his face full of irritation. He sneered at Su father, who was sitting on the sofa. “Early in the morning, what are you doing here? Looking for a scolding? I’m not in the mood today.”
Last night his wife kicked him out to sleep in the study. His mood was definitely not pretty.
Su father, already a parent and far more mature than Lu Chen after all these years, would never get angered so easily. “I can tell. You’re sexually frustrated. Did Wen Ya kick you out of the room again this time, or did she kick you out of the house altogether?”
Lu Chen was hit right in the sore spot. He glared fiercely at Su father. “If that’s all you came to say, get out.”
“Don’t.” Su father took out a document envelope and smiled. “I’m here to save you this time. Come, take a look—just don’t be too moved later.”
“Are you calling a dog?” Lu Chen lifted his peach-blossom eyes, not bothering to entertain him.
Seeing this, Su father chuckled. “Lu Chen, if you don’t look now, you’ll regret it for a lifetime.”
Lu Chen raised his brows. Only then did he stand up. “What is it? If you brought a bunch of garbage paper to mess with me, don’t even think about leaving today.”
Su father didn’t mind. “Relax. After you see it, you’ll definitely thank me.”
Lu Chen curled his lips in a cold, mocking smile and casually picked up the envelope Su father handed him.
He opened it and pulled out the documents. At a glance, his eyes landed on a few bold characters on the page.
Instinctively, his hand tightened around the papers.
Lu Chen quickly read through it, and when he reached the final word, his face darkened. “What do you mean by this? You forged something like this just to fool me?”
He and Su father had fought since childhood, endlessly pranking each other. He fully believed this was just another trick from Su father.
Su father sat calmly on the sofa. “You’re not going to keep reading?”
Lu Chen shot him a look, then continued flipping pages. His gaze landed on the photo attached at the back. That familiar set of features almost made his knees buckle.
He glared at Su father. “You think finding someone who looks like me and forging a paternity test will make me believe that kid is my son?”
Su father understood Lu Chen’s personality just as well as Lu Chen understood his. He laughed. “Lu Chen, if you don’t believe it, check it yourself. If your son hadn’t saved me and my wife during that fire, do you think I’d bother wasting time helping you find him?”
Su father stood, patted Lu Chen’s shoulder, and said, “Flower Fox, whether that’s your son or not—you’ll know with one look.”
Watching Su father walk out of the office, Lu Chen’s peach-blossom eyes narrowed.
On the other side, Su Ci woke up thirsty, her throat dry and scratchy.
She opened her eyes and tried to get up, but a wave of headache washed over her, her limbs weak.
The air conditioner in the room was so cold that she instinctively curled deeper into the blanket, letting out several uncontrollable sneezes.
Hearing her own congested nasal voice, Su Ci remembered how last night, because she’d been furious and overheated, she turned the air conditioner down to the lowest temperature. And on top of that, after washing her hair, she had dozed off without drying it. No wonder she caught a cold.
A cold?
Su Ci instinctively reached up to touch the top of her head.
Soft, fluffy.
Sure enough, her rabbit ears had popped out.
Crap!
She was at home—there were so many servants around. If they saw her rabbit ears, what would she do?!
Su Ci immediately made a video call to Lu Zhe.
He picked up very quickly.
“Lu Zhe, my rabbit ears popped out.” Su Ci said pitifully.
Even without her saying it, Lu Zhe had already seen the pair of white, fluffy rabbit ears perched on the girl’s head. He instinctively frowned. “You’re sick?”
“Mm, I caught a cold because you made me angry.” Su Ci righteously accused him.
Lu Zhe asked, “Did you take cold medicine?”
Su Ci shook her head, and the rabbit ears on top of her head swayed with her movement—soft, cute, and practically begging to be squeezed. “There’s no cold medicine in my room.”
Lu Zhe shifted his gaze away, refusing to look at her rabbit ears. “Put on a hat and ask someone to buy cold medicine for you.”
Su Ci shook her head again. “No. If Mom finds out I caught a cold, she’ll definitely worry. She’ll either take me to the hospital or call the family doctor to check on me.”
Lu Zhe thought for a moment. “I’ll go buy medicine later and bring it to you.”
“Where are you? I want to go to your place. I can’t stay at home. There are too many people here. I’ll get exposed easily.”
In the end, Lu Zhe couldn’t ignore the worry he felt for the girl’s cold. He told her his address.
After ending the call, Su Ci quickly got up and changed clothes. After washing her face, she looked at herself in the mirror with the pair of rabbit ears on her head. Even though she was anxious, she couldn’t help admiring herself for a few seconds. Her face was already beautiful—adding the rabbit ears made her look like a little temptress.
After leaving the bathroom, Su Ci put on a hat and went downstairs.
Su father and her older brother Su Zhiyuan had gone to work, and Su mother had gone out with Little Tiancai and Little Su Ning. Only a few servants were left at home.
Su Ci used the hat to hide her rabbit ears securely. She told the driver to prepare the car and drive to Lu Zhe’s place.
When the car stopped at the entrance of the neighborhood, Su Ci had already seen the boy standing straight and tall beside the iron gate.
It was nearly noon, and with no shade around, Lu Zhe was standing there under the harsh sun, waiting for her.
Su Ci told the driver to stop, then got out of the car.
“Why didn’t you wait for me somewhere with shade?” Su Ci quickly walked up to Lu Zhe.
The girl’s voice was thick with congestion—she was clearly sick. Lu Zhe reached out to touch her forehead; her temperature was normal, no fever.
He withdrew his hand and asked, “Did you eat breakfast?”
Su Ci shook her head. She had come straight to find him.
“Eat something first, then take the cold medicine.” Lu Zhe led her into the residential complex.
Su Ci nodded obediently.
It was her first time visiting the new apartment Lu Zhe had rented. Compared to the one he had in City D, this place was much larger, brighter, clean and well-kept. Though simple, it felt comfortable.
“Come eat breakfast.” Lu Zhe brought out a bowl of freshly cooked porridge.
Su Ci removed the hat on her head, and her pair of soft, white rabbit ears popped out instantly, causing the boy—whose expression was usually cold—to glance at her an extra second.
Su Ci noticed immediately.
She remembered how Lu Zhe said yesterday that he didn’t like her. She still hadn’t gotten over that anger.
Standing beside the sofa, she didn’t move closer. Today she was wearing a white dress that matched her white rabbit ears perfectly, making her look just like a little rabbit spirit.
She shot him a glance and deliberately said, “No appetite. Don’t want to eat.”
Lu Zhe said, “You need something in your stomach before you take medicine.”
“I’m still full from being angry at you last night.” Su Ci looked at him with small, resentful eyes. “It hasn’t digested yet.”
Lu Zhe lowered his gaze. His voice was deep. “Eat breakfast first, then take the medicine. Your ears will go back afterward.”
Su Ci didn’t care about her ears at all right now.
She walked up to Lu Zhe, staring straight at him. “I’m so angry at you I’m about to cry.” The next second, her eyes suddenly turned red. Crying at home didn’t work—if she was going to cry, she had to do it in front of Lu Zhe.
Seeing the boy suddenly panic, Su Ci knew her crying skills hadn’t deteriorated one bit.
