They learned that he was looking for someone, a woman called Xue Ling.
“In order to go to our Mother Lion Camp to look for this woman, you really put in a lot of effort.”
Fourth Brother’s expression darkened, his teeth clenched. “If the person had really died in our Mother Lion Camp and you wanted to take revenge on us, then fine. But the person wasn’t even there. You had no grudge with the Yi Lion Gang, so why did you still make a move!”
This was the point Fourth Brother could least understand.
These words made Xue Ling’s motion of pulling down her mask pause. She couldn’t help but look toward Wen Jiuzhe.
She knew that Wen Jiuzhe had enmity with this group of lion heads, but she didn’t know the specifics. Last time, Wen Jiuzhe hadn’t explained the whole story to her either.
So it was also related to her.
Wen Jiuzhe didn’t look at her. In a lazy tone, he said, “Wrong. She’s not the person I was looking for back then. She’s just unlucky enough to be on the same road as me.”
Fourth Brother sneered. “Whether she is or not, since she’s your woman, today you’ll have to watch with your own eyes as the brothers sleep with her first. If you want to blame someone, blame yourself for being nosy back then!”
Wen Jiuzhe’s expression finally darkened beyond control. The look of him finally being angered made Fourth Brother laugh in satisfaction twice.
Xue Ling’s expression was much more complicated.
Hearing such words was indeed unpleasant, but as long as she pulled down her mask and revealed her zombie-blue face, this man would only be able to swallow his words back down.
In this world, no one dared to sleep with a zombie!
The atmosphere was taut, on the verge of exploding. Fourth Brother suddenly tucked his gun back behind his waist and said, “But I can give you a chance.”
“We’ll fight. If you win, you and your girlfriend—I’ll give you both a quick end.”
De-ge, who looked honest and simple, was not very agreeable when he heard this. At a time like this, they should not give the enemy any chance to turn things around.
But they had never been able to rein in Fourth Brother. Fourth Brother valued brotherhood, but at the same time he was self-willed and refused to listen to advice. The few of them could only, at Fourth Brother’s signal, temporarily lower their guns.
Wen Jiuzhe also tucked his gun back into his waistband, his hand still resting on it, guarding against a sudden attack from the other side.
Fourth Brother was a trained fighter. In the first thirty years of his life, he had never encountered an opponent and had always been proud of his own skills—until he met Wen Jiuzhe.
Wen Jiuzhe had been trained within the Wen family. Old Master Wen’s direction for cultivating him was different from Wen Xuan’s. He was destined to do dangerous things, and physical skill was crucial.
Compared in experience and talent, Fourth Brother, though a few years older, could not surpass Wen Jiuzhe. It was like this last time, and it was the same this time.
The two tangled in combat for more than ten minutes. Fourth Brother gradually fell into a disadvantage. Just as Fourth Brother was about to lose and be restrained by Wen Jiuzhe, De-ge at the side suddenly fired a gun at Wen Jiuzhe.
Relying on the sharp sensitivity to danger honed through multiple brushes with death, Wen Jiuzhe reacted almost as if he had predicted it. At the same time, he tightened his hold around Fourth Brother’s neck and rolled over, letting Fourth Brother take that shot for him.
Several exclamations rang out at once. The remaining three men raised their guns at Wen Jiuzhe one after another.
But he and Fourth Brother were tangled together, rolling on the ground. Afraid of accidentally injuring Fourth Brother again, they could only lower their guns and rush forward to help, first separating the two of them.
Almost the very next second after De-ge fired, Xue Ling, who had been standing quietly all along, also moved. She lunged straight at De-ge.
No one present took her seriously—De-ge included.
At such a critical moment, seeing her rush over to seek her own death, he didn’t think and fired a shot at her, only wanting to deal with her quickly and go help Fourth Brother.
The shot hit Xue Ling’s body, but it didn’t slow her down for even a second.
A handgun hitting a zombie’s body just meant a few more holes. Xue Ling didn’t care.
In the blink of an eye, she was in front of De-ge. By the time De-ge saw the bluish face beneath her mask and tried to aim his gun at her head, it was already too late.
The zombie bit through his throat.
De-ge only had time to let out one last scream before dying. The gun in his hand had already fallen to the ground.
The sudden change happened within a few seconds. When De-ge was bitten to death, the three young men had just approached Wen Jiuzhe and Fourth Brother. Hearing the scream, they turned their heads and saw De-ge collapsing to the ground.
Xue Ling turned back, revealing a face drenched in blood. Those zombie-red eyes showed beneath the shattered sunglasses.
“De-ge!”
“She’s a zombie!”
After the utterly unoriginal cries of shock, one of the young men raised his gun to shoot Xue Ling in the head.
Xue Ling pounced toward the car. Fortunately, this man’s aim wasn’t that good, and the bullet hit beside her.
Wen Jiuzhe had both hands controlling Fourth Brother, locked in a contest of strength with him, while also being attacked by the other two, suffering heavy blows all over his body.
Noticing someone raising a gun at Xue Ling, he ignored the two young men attacking him and slammed the face-purple Fourth Brother into the shooter.
The shooter was knocked to the ground. The shot went wide. Xue Ling pulled open the door of Fourth Brother’s car and dove inside.
In such a cramped space, anyone with a brain knew not to fire a gun.
Another person who chased up to the car pulled out a knife.
Xue Ling’s dodging movements were not fast. She was slashed twice, and the tough flesh on her arm split open.
But the advantage of zombies was that as long as the head wasn’t destroyed, slashing the body couldn’t kill them quickly. On the contrary, for humans, being grabbed or bitten meant the end.
The space was narrow. In a ruthless burst, Xue Ling ignored the knife cutting into her body and reached for the man’s face.
The man only felt a sudden chill on his face. A large chunk of flesh was torn straight off his cheek.
He screamed, clutching his face. Unable to see, the hand he was wildly swinging grabbed Xue Ling, and the two of them fell out of the car together.
Another young man who rushed over picked up the knife that had fallen and swung it viciously down toward Xue Ling’s neck—
“Bang!”
The knife had only fallen halfway when he was yanked down from behind.
It was Wen Jiuzhe. He let go of Fourth Brother, whom he had been gripping and who was on the verge of suffocation, and stopped that strike.
The young man who was dragged down reacted quickly as well. Failing to cut Xue Ling, he changed his movement in the instant he was pulled down and slashed at Wen Jiuzhe instead.
The remaining man propped up the barely conscious Fourth Brother and fired a shot at Wen Jiuzhe’s back.
At that moment, there was no time to think. Wen Jiuzhe’s body instinctively completed the evasive movement.
He dodged the fatal shot from behind, but he didn’t dodge the knife in front of him.
The blade cut from his arm across to his chest, blood spraying out.
Wen Jiuzhe snatched the knife backhanded and cut the man down, then quickly drew his gun, turned, and fired at the last surviving person.
“Bang!”
Blood covered the ground.
Because De-ge had been bitten too badly, his neck was directly severed. He didn’t become a zombie, only lay by the car with his eyes wide open.
The other young man whose face had been torn off by Xue Ling wasn’t quite dead yet. He rolled on the ground, gradually zombifying.
One of the men Wen Jiuzhe had cut down lay slumped by the car door. The other, shot dead, had fallen onto Fourth Brother.
Only Fourth Brother remained. His face was still purplish from suffocation. Clutching his wounds, he tried to grab the gun that had fallen on the ground.
Wen Jiuzhe’s chest heaved violently. He kicked the gun away before Fourth Brother could reach it and dealt with him without a word of nonsense.
The fight broke out fast and ended just as fast. From the moment De-ge fired the gun to now, only a few minutes had passed.
Xue Ling ran out of the car and hurried anxiously toward Wen Jiuzhe.
Wen Jiuzhe was covered in injuries from his fight with Fourth Brother. The wound across his chest and arm was long and deep.
He stood beside Fourth Brother’s corpse and looked at Xue Ling. She had also been shot, and her arm and waist bore fresh knife wounds.
Xue Ling’s approaching steps suddenly slowed, her gaze fixed on the wound on his chest.
Wen Jiuzhe followed her gaze and looked down as well, discovering that the blood from his wound was slowly stopping.
But this was not a good thing, because the congealed blood was darkening, and the edges of the wound were turning black.
Realizing something, Wen Jiuzhe looked at the knife in his hand.
This was the knife he had just seized from another person. Before cutting him, this knife had already cut Xue Ling.
