The Yi Lion Gang used the same batch of specially modified vehicles; their exteriors all looked the same.
Although the car Wen Jiu was driving had a mottled body, and the lion-head patterns had all been scraped off, Brother Gang still saw a few clues.
Even though he had not yet figured out what was going on with this car, Brother Gang had already gripped his gun, signaling for one brother to go over with him to take a look.
The Yi Lion Gang’s style was domineering. No matter how the other party got this car, if they dared to take advantage of them, they had to be taught a lesson.
That car was parked quietly, and there was no movement inside, as if no one was there.
But as he drew near the car, Brother Gang’s eyelid suddenly twitched. He had gone through life-and-death situations many times and had rich experience; immediately, he yanked the person beside him and dodged to the side.
He dodged in time, but the brother next to him let out a miserable scream, clutching his thigh and wailing in pain.
He had been shot!
“A-Yang!” the remaining few shouted.
Brother Gang immediately released A-Yang and looked toward the direction of the shot, at the same time raising his gun.
A tall figure lingered in his line of sight for an instant, revealing a face that made his teeth itch with hatred. The other party gave a provocative smile, then darted into an abandoned building in the camp.
“It’s you! Wen Jiu!” Brother Gang fired a shot; he missed, then roared, “Two of you, come with me and kill him!”
Brother Gang was an old hand who had been there since the Yi Lion Gang was formed. At the beginning, they were just a gang of hoodlums; later, under the boss’s leadership, they directly became a base.
Originally, their base had been thriving, but it was because of this man who called himself Wen Jiu that their base was gravely weakened!
Wen Jiu didn’t know what kind of grudge he had with them. He assassinated their boss; the severely injured boss died due to infection, and their base descended into chaos.
First, the boss’s two close brothers, the second and the third, fought over power. In the end, the two died together, leaving only a fourth who could fight but didn’t have the brains, completely unable to command respect.
At this time, the boss’s woman stepped forward and actually wanted to seize power.
Although Brother Gang called her sister-in-law, he looked down on her in his heart, and even suspected that the boss’s inexplicable death by infection was related to her; even the falling-out between the second and third was also stirred up by her and her younger sister.
The third’s woman was her own younger sister. The two sisters had once been virtuous and obedient; who would have thought that once they turned hostile, their true faces would be revealed.
The two sisters won over quite a few brothers in the gang, and more importantly, the elder sister held in her hands the weapons trading channels that previously only the boss knew about, and truly sat in the leader’s position.
If this continued, their Yi Lion base was about to become a Lioness base!
Brother Gang and some others who hoped even more to let the fourth take the position secretly went out to contact new weapons purchasing channels, and also prepared to join forces with people from other bases to launch an attack.
In order not to alert the enemy and create unnecessary complications, Brother Gang had not allowed his underlings to stir up trouble along the way. Who would have thought that they would run into Wen Jiu, this chief culprit, here!
Brother Gang wished he could swallow him alive. If not for him! If not for him, how would the boss have died, how would their base have fallen into chaos!
Moreover, his own younger brother had also died at Wen Jiu’s hands because he led people to hunt him down.
All this time, their base had been in internal turmoil and hadn’t had the chance to pursue him. Today, he had actually delivered himself to their doorstep.
Brother Gang didn’t care about anything else, thinking only of killing Wen Jiu first to avenge himself!
Many of the camp’s structures were built backed up against buildings that had been cleared out. Occasionally, people would also live in such buildings; everything inside had been moved away, leaving only the building frame.
Wen Jiu and Brother Gang and the others ran into the building almost one after another, and then vanished without a trace.
In the camp’s open ground, all that remained was a man who had been shot in the upper thigh, lying on the ground crying out in pain, along with Zou Hong and another man.
“Watch A-Yang, I’ll go help too!” the man said, then ran into the building as well, leaving only Zou Hong standing there.
Zou Hong looked at A-Yang, whose voice was gradually weakening, with unwillingness and irritation. He also wanted to chase after that person just now. Brother Gang was so angry; that person had to be their enemy.
If he was lucky enough to take down the enemy, it would be enough for him to show off, and maybe Brother Gang would even get him a small squad leader position.
But he had no experience and this was his first time coming out. Brother Gang was his cousin, and before coming out he had warned him not to rush forward if he encountered danger.
Looking at the blood all over the ground, Zou Hong didn’t know how to deal with A-Yang’s injury. He suddenly noticed the car Wen Jiuzhe had parked to the side. His eyes shifted, and he walked toward the car, trying to pull the door.
The door was locked and wouldn’t open. He cursed, knocked on the door with the gun in his hand, and leaned toward the window to try to look inside.
At this moment, Xue Ling was sitting in the back seat, squeezed together with a pile of miscellaneous items she had collected herself, flames practically shooting from the top of her head.
Earlier, the moment this group of lion-head–tattooed men appeared, Wen Jiuzhe had been off. Before she could even ask a couple more questions, a whole big group in the camp had already left.
Because these men clearly looked hard to mess with, Xue Ling had also been wondering whether she should follow them and leave.
Then Wen Jiuzhe suddenly said to her, “Hide in the car later. Don’t make a sound.”
Xue Ling: “?”
What are you going to do?
Wen Jiuzhe: “I’ll kill them and come back.”
Xue Ling: “?”
His tone was so relaxed it was like he was about to go to the bathroom and come right back.
Xue Ling looked at the six men opposite, then looked at him alone.
Usually when robbing people, they only had knives. He had a gun to intimidate them, so there was nothing to fear. But these few men clearly all had guns in their hands?
Although she had heard Wen Jiuzhe talk about stories of being chased by dozens of people and still escaping safely, she felt there had to be fictional elements in those stories.
Men loved to brag; she understood.
Given the situation right now, if he insisted on doing it, she couldn’t very well stand by and do nothing.
So she volunteered herself, preparing to help him.
Wen Jiuzhe refused. He joked, “I won’t eat soft rice today. You rest for a bit.”
These desperadoes had killed plenty of people, and plenty of zombies as well. They were different from those bandits who only dared to ambush passersby hiding by the roadside.
If Xue Ling showed herself, once they reacted, they would deal with her immediately. Wen Jiuzhe was used to taking risks himself, but he didn’t want Xue Ling to try it too.
So while the men’s attention was drawn to the car driving out of the camp, he got out of the car and tricked Xue Ling into the back seat, then locked the doors.
Xue Ling couldn’t speak, and didn’t have time to write anything, so she could only curse inwardly.
She hadn’t even had time to process this overly fast development, her head full of questions.
Wen Jiuzhe also didn’t explain the situation to her clearly, and didn’t want her help, making himself look like some lone hero in a movie, pulling out a gun and going to face the enemy alone.
Before leaving, he even kissed her on the forehead and told her not to worry, that it was fine, that he’d be right back—did he really think of himself as a movie male lead? What was he acting out here?
Insane!
Didn’t he know that saying things like that was extremely inauspicious?
Normally, when she wanted him to shut up, she might say something; but at critical moments when she wanted him to speak, he turned into a dead pig—no amount of boiling water could pry his mouth open.
Where was the cause and effect? All of a sudden it was fighting and killing people, all of a sudden he was gone, without even turning his head back, acting like he was so handsome.
Xue Ling thought of some of his past high-blood-pressure antics, and the more she thought about it in the car, the angrier she got.
When she saw a man pacing outside the car door, Xue Ling irritably pressed the unlock.
This lock was meant to prevent people outside from opening the door; it didn’t stop someone inside from opening it.
Zou Hong wasn’t prepared for the car door to suddenly open from the inside. Before he could raise the gun in his hand, his vision went black as a dark figure pounced on him.
His neck exploded with pain.
A zombie’s bite force, compared to that of humans, had evolved many times over; its teeth were hard, so an enraged zombie could easily tear open a human’s neck.
The spraying red splashed all over the zombie’s bluish-white face and clean clothes.
Zou Hong’s windpipe was torn apart; he didn’t even manage to make a sound, collapsing straight to the ground.
His face rapidly turned bluish, his body convulsing.
