Beneath her fingertips was the metallic texture of the belt buckle, the icy chill pressed against her skin.
The man lowered his eyes, staring straight at her.
His eyelashes were very long, even longer than a girl’s. When he lowered his gaze, the shadow of his lashes fell over his lower eyelids, deepening the already pitch-black color of his eyes, making it impossible to discern his emotions.
He did not move at all as he stared at her—or rather, waited for her.
Fireworks burst open in clusters over the lake, red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, violet—brilliant and dazzling. As they soared upward, the popping sounds thudded against the heart.
The jubilant noise of the New Year mingled with the fireworks, becoming a distant, blurred backdrop that made the air at this moment feel deep and still.
Only the thudding sounds continued one after another, incomparably clear, urgent and heavy.
Jin Zhao lifted her face and gazed at him.
The ever-changing light of the fireworks washed over his handsome, sharply contoured profile again and again.
Her fingers tightened.
“Click.”
The belt came undone.
The metal buckle, along with the expensive Italian handmade leather belt, dropped down. At the same time, Jin Zhao rose onto her tiptoes and actively kissed his lips.
The layout of the top-floor suite was more like a complete apartment—an open living room, bedroom, study… even more than one bathroom. At first, they were only kissing in the living room, and Meng Yanxi was still struggling to hold onto his final line.
Even back in the small hotel, when he had covered her, his body had already reacted.
But that was not the first time either—along with certain wicked, unspeakable thoughts that grew uncontrollably every time he saw her.
That night, the crude words he breathed into her ear—he truly thought he was dreaming then, but they were not words spoken in a dream.
But he could pretend.
When it came to pretending to be upright and respectable, men seemed to possess an innate talent.
Yet at this moment, he no longer wanted to pretend, even knowing clearly that his plunder would frighten her.
Their coats and clothes fell all over the floor, tangled together. The man’s fingertips lifted the hem of her cashmere, his hand slipping inside.
His hand was not cold, but when it touched her body, Jin Zhao still couldn’t help but shiver lightly.
Not cold, but a little hard.
The pads of his fingers were rough, the knuckles carrying strength, restrained as they traced the lines of her waist and hips. As if he no longer wanted to restrain himself, after lingering briefly, they soon moved inch by inch upward from her waistline.
Her body was kneaded by him, her mouth sealed by his forceful kiss, until Jin Zhao could barely breathe.
She heard heavy breathing, urgent and chaotic, even drowning out the thudding crashes of the fireworks, impossible to tell whether it was hers or his.
Meng Yanxi pressed against her and retreated to the sofa.
Clinging to her last shred of reason, Jin Zhao reminded him softly, “Close… close the curtains…”
The sofa would do, the floor would do, anywhere would do—as long as the person was him. But this was the great open living room, an entire wall of floor-to-ceiling windows. In the daytime, the light was excellent, the lake, mountains, and seasonal scenery all in full view; at night, it was the same.
The man bent over her, kissing her earlobe, kissing her neck.
His hand slid down, holding hers, gently soothing her fingertips.
This place used one-way glass.
But at this moment he didn’t want to say much—didn’t want to say a single word—so he only gave her a vague assurance: “Don’t worry, I won’t do anything.”
Jin Zhao knew he had misunderstood.
But she really found it hard to say the two words “it’s okay.”
She tried to open her mouth, but as a result, he misunderstood her again. Her lips were immediately sealed by his, his tongue pressing deeply inside.
Jin Zhao: “……”
Her fingers fumbled to his waist and abdomen, going to undo the buttons of his shirt—the bottom one, the second from the bottom… As she fumbled, her fingertips brushed again and again over his firm abdominal muscles.
Her hand was suddenly pressed down with force.
Her palm was pinned against his lower abdomen, scorching hot.
The man’s pitch-black eyes stared straight at her.
“Are you sure?”
Even though unfastening a belt would, to anyone, already count as a signal, Jin Zhao’s past record with Meng Yanxi was really not very good.
She had completely failed to understand what he believed to be incomparably romantic confessions, had directly exposed the “lottery draw” he painstakingly arranged, and had even taken the money he used to repay her social debts and returned it to him.
She was so dull it almost gave him psychological trauma—he truly did not dare to judge her by ordinary standards.
What if he misunderstood again… To be rejected again and again by the girl he cherished so deeply—he would be hurt too.
Facing someone like Jin Zhao, even someone as proud as Meng Yanxi needed greater certainty.
Jin Zhao understood the caution in his eyes.
This man was born under the gaze of countless stars; she had personally seen him standing high above others, and he never hid his sense of superiority. In his life, he probably rarely experienced such uncertainty as this moment—afraid of being too light, too heavy, too slow, too fast.
“Not even two months yet, would it make you feel it’s too fast?” He cupped her face and asked softly.
His gaze was plainly expectant, yet exceedingly careful.
Jin Zhao’s heart softened into a pool of water.
She held his hand, looking at him with infatuation. As the light fell, it illuminated the moist shimmer in her eyes.
She didn’t say it was okay. Instead, her other hand hooked around the back of his neck and gently pulled.
Meng Yanxi was drawn down by her, his head resting in the hollow of her neck.
Jin Zhao tilted her head slightly, blushing as she whispered softly by his ear, “Didn’t you say you want to fuck Lingling every day? Then come.”
“Bang!”
Outside the window, a firework shot straight into the sky and exploded at its peak.
Meng Yanxi’s scalp seemed to explode along with the fireworks.

Meng Zhuxi had come to the lakeside with her dorm mates to watch the fireworks. They had originally gathered by the lake to wait for the countdown, but the deep winter wind was truly too cold, cutting against their faces. The girls were all shivering, so Meng Zhuxi brought them to Luxi.
Compared to Meng Yanxi, Meng Zhuxi was much more low-key. Her classmates only knew that she was rich; they didn’t know exactly how rich she was, nor did they know her relationship with Meng Yanxi.
When they were booking rooms at the front desk, they happened to run into Luo Heng and Lu Jingyue.
Luo Heng called her name from far away. Meng Zhuxi turned her head and immediately saw them.
Meng Zhuxi smiled brightly and called out, “Brother Yue, Brother Luo Heng.”
Her gaze shifted. Not seeing Meng Yanxi, she asked, “Where’s my brother?”
“Your brother?” Luo Heng said in surprise. “Isn’t your brother in the U.S.?”
Meng Zhuxi blurted out, “No, he’s already back. My dad told him to come home tonight, and he even said he’d ring in the New Year with you guys.”
Luo Heng: “……”
Meng Yanxi, that bastard!
Meng Zhuxi: “Huh? He didn’t come with you? Then what’s he doing right now?”

Jin Zhao’s fingers tightened, gripping the man’s forearm hard. Her whole body was taut, even her toes curled and flushed with tension.
After she said that sentence, Meng Yanxi carried her back to the bedroom.
The smart curtains slowly closed behind him. The look in his eyes as he watched her was extremely deep; in an instant, Jin Zhao thought of the fierce beasts in nature documentaries.
Everything that happened afterward proved that it wasn’t an illusion.
Especially when he told her to wait while he went out to buy something, and she softly said, “I already bought it, it’s in my bag.”
She had bought it carelessly—ordinary size, a bit small for him.
He tore open the outer packaging and barely put it on. It was actually a bit uncomfortable, but going out to buy another now would only be more uncomfortable, so he chose the present moment.
When he covered her again, with a hint of mischief, he bit her ear root and laughed lightly. “Didn’t I show it to you before? Why didn’t you buy a bigger one?”
Jin Zhao: “……”
Indeed, she had seen it. But she truly didn’t know what kind of talent it took to organize such a sentence, to bring that innate wickedness to its fullest.
Jin Zhao didn’t want to hear him speak. She turned her head and kissed his lips.
The man’s large hand grasped her leg, hooking it around his lean, powerful waist.
……
When the phone rang, Meng Yanxi was mired deep, unable to pull himself out.
Light shone from the pocket of the pants on the floor.
Winter fabric was thick; the glow from the phone screen was dulled, but in the dim bedroom it was still bright enough, illuminating the pale yellow panties tossed haphazardly over the suit trousers, the large soaked patch in the middle dark and deep.
On the bed, the muscles of the man’s shoulders and back tensed and released again and again, the rhythm extremely fast.
A body honed by years of disciplined training—lean muscle, smooth and beautiful lines. Sweat couldn’t cling to him, sliding from his collarbones down his taut chest, then, with the large movements, falling onto her lower abdomen.
Merging with her.
The intense sensory exhilaration made the two of them forget everything around them—be it the fireworks or the abrupt ringing.
Later, Jin Zhao seemed to hear it. Her half-open, half-lidded eyes followed the sound, and soon her chin was caught by his hand.
Her mouth was completely sealed by his.
Meng Yanxi lifted her off the bed.
Holding her face to face, with the downward force of his body, Jin Zhao was driven into a blank haze, her scalp tingling with numbness.
Meng Yanxi’s scalp tingled too. Holding her, he walked step by step over, kicking the phone—along with the pants—out of the bedroom door.
The heavy solid-wood door had excellent soundproofing, instantly cutting off the phone’s troublesome ringing.
And along that short stretch, Jin Zhao broke down screaming.
Above and below, everything was wet.

“Didn’t pick up.”
Luo Heng had called Meng Yanxi twice in a row, both times ending with the mechanical “The number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable.”
Holding up his phone, he said regretfully to Meng Zhuxi.
Meng Zhuxi was dissatisfied, muttering, “What is Meng Yanxi doing? So busy he won’t even answer his phone.”
Luo Heng said, “Exactly! He’s been in the U.S. for almost half a month—fine if he didn’t call his brothers then, but at least say something when he’s back. What could be so urgent that he’s in such a hurry?”
Lu Jingyue leaned against a spot not far away, watching these two single-celled creatures coolly.
But it had nothing to do with him. Whether Meng Yanxi’s good thing got interrupted or not—what did that have to do with him? He just watched, saying nothing.
Turns out a villain racking his brains was no match for a fool’s sudden inspiration.
Luo Heng said, “Maybe he’s exhausted from work and fell asleep. How about we go up to the top floor to find him?”
Meng Zhuxi said, “Is he staying here recently?”
Luo Heng said, “No idea. Who cares—he’s upstairs anyway, not far. Let’s go knock and see. If he’s not there, we’ll deal with it then.”
Meng Zhuxi thought about it and nodded, finding it feasible. “Okay. It’s almost midnight. Let’s find my brother to ring in the New Year together—show my once-a-year filial piety.”
The two hit it off immediately and headed for the elevator.
Lu Jingyue: “……”
For his brother’s happiness, he truly worried himself sick.
He finally couldn’t take it anymore and spoke up. “Forget it. Meng Yanxi should be busy right now.”
Meng Zhuxi asked innocently, “At this hour, what could he possibly be busy with?”
Luo Heng said, “Exactly. We know President Meng is career-driven, but it’s New Year’s Eve—who would be busy with him at a time like this?”
Lu Jingyue thought for a moment, then said, “Precisely because he’s career-driven—he seizes every second and shoots straight into the sky.”
……
“Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one!”
“Bang!”
“Bang!”
“Bang!”
Suddenly, the synchronized New Year’s countdown rose from outside the window, accompanied by the most magnificent burst of fireworks of the night shooting straight into the clouds and exploding.
On the large bed, two bodies were tightly entwined.
Scalding sweat tangled together amid trembling.
