Hearing Zhao Youyou admit that she was the one who saved the person, Ling Hui excitedly grabbed her hand. “Ah, it was really you. They were even guessing if it was the school belle, Jiang Mengqi. They don’t even think—how could someone as proud as her possibly save someone?”
Zhao Youyou smiled.
Yesterday, a little boy had fallen to the ground and injured his knee. She helped the boy up and even used a tissue to press against his wound. When the boy’s parent appeared, they were very grateful to her, but she hadn’t expected the parent to actually write a thank-you letter to the school.
In the last row, Lu Zhe put down his backpack, then placed the rabbit inside the drawer.
After kissing Lu Zhe yesterday, Su Ci had turned back into a human not long after. She immediately dismissed the idea of coming to school with him. After all, she couldn’t kiss him in front of so many people and then turn human again.
But unexpectedly, before leaving, Lu Zhe stuffed her into his backpack.
From the way he closed the window before going out and even placed a strand of hair by the door, Su Ci knew that Lu Zhe must have mistakenly thought someone had broken into his place yesterday.
Fortunately, the apartment complex was too run-down, and there were no security cameras installed inside the building, so Lu Zhe wouldn’t discover that the person going in and out was her.
“Lu Zhe—no, Brother Zhe!” Li Dongliang had just walked to his seat when he saw Lu Zhe take out a snow-white bundle from his backpack—a rabbit!
“Brother Zhe.”
Li Dongliang threw aside his own pink backpack, hurriedly dragged his desk across the Chu River–Han Border line toward Lu Zhe, and shamelessly leaned over. “You brought the little bunny? Brother Zhe, let me see, I won’t touch it, just one look.”
Su Ci poked her head out of the drawer, then leaped onto Lu Zhe’s lap. She didn’t want to stay in that tiny dark space anymore—now she could show up openly.
Lu Zhe held down its small, soft body, letting it lie on his lap.
“Ahhhh.”
Li Dongliang opened his mouth, suppressing the urge to shout. He stared greedily at the snowball sitting on Lu Zhe’s blue school uniform pants. “I didn’t see it for one day, and the little bunny got even cuter.”
It was practically killing him with cuteness!
Li Dongliang forced himself not to reach out to touch the rabbit. He just stared at it in a daze.
Good heavens, even the way the little bunny closed its eyes to sleep was adorable.
Su Ci ignored the pervy Li Dongliang beside her. She heard the students around them talking about whether it was Zhao Youyou or the school belle who saved the person. Some people analyzed that the school belle had come to school very early yesterday, so the one who saved the person should be Zhao Youyou.
Su Ci felt that Zhao Youyou truly lived up to being the female lead—saving someone, receiving a thank-you letter from a parent, and even being known by the entire school. She really did have a natural heroine halo.
When class ended, Zhao Youyou was called to the director’s office.
Seeing the school belle, Jiang Mengqi, standing beside her, she more or less guessed why the director had called them over.
“You’ve heard about the thank-you letter the school received from the parent, right?”
The director didn’t put on a stern face. Instead, he smiled kindly. “The school places great importance on this. This is the spirit of being willing to help others, worthy of praise. So the school has decided to let the student who saved the person be featured on the Honor Board for one month.”
The Honor Board was usually reserved for outstanding achievements or major awards. Now that they were letting the student who saved someone be featured for a whole month, it was clear the school valued this incident very much.
Hearing this, Zhao Youyou couldn’t help feeling surprised.
Meanwhile, Jiang Mengqi felt tightness in her chest. She hadn’t been the one who saved the person, so the one who did must have been Zhao Youyou.
This Zhao Youyou used to wear heavy makeup, and with her clingy, brainless personality, she had been quite ugly. She never expected Zhao Youyou to suddenly change—now not only did she face the world with a bare face, but her temperament had become gentle and refined. Don’t think she didn’t know: lately, many people had been comparing Zhao Youyou with her, and some even said Zhao Youyou was prettier than her!
Now Zhao Youyou had saved someone and could be featured on the Honor Board. Such an honor made her absolutely seethe with anger.
Jiang Mengqi shook her head at the director. “I wasn’t the one who saved him.”
The director’s gaze shifted to Zhao Youyou.
Zhao Youyou knew she would be featured on the Honor Board, and she couldn’t help feeling secretly delighted. “I did help a little boy yesterday. His parent has already thanked me.”
The director smiled. “The parent specially wrote a thank-you letter to the school. Clearly, they truly appreciate that you risked your life to save their son. Go back and prepare to share your rescue experience at the flag-raising ceremony next Monday. Someone will also be in charge of putting your photo on the Honor Board.”
The director continued, “Alright, you two can go back to class.”
Risked her life to save the parent’s child?
That wasn’t right.
She had only helped up a kid who fell by the roadside and wiped his knee.
The smile at the corner of Zhao Youyou’s lips froze. A bad premonition rose in her heart. Did she misunderstand something?
“Anything else?” The director noticed the student standing there in a daze.
Zhao Youyou couldn’t smile at all anymore. She quickly shook her head. She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but didn’t know how to explain. Not only had she misunderstood—everyone else must have misunderstood too.
Her heart thumped uneasily, but then she thought that the parent must not know the name of the student who saved the child, which was why everyone kept guessing between her and Jiang Mengqi.
Besides, she had helped a little boy. There was no reason for her to feel guilty.
Thinking this, Zhao Youyou’s wildly beating heart settled just a little.
After Zhao Youyou and Jiang Mengqi returned from the director’s office, the news that Zhao Youyou was the rescuer spread quickly throughout the school.
The director reported Zhao Youyou’s name to the principal.
Recently, First High School was competing for the title of “Advanced School.” A case of a student risking her life to save someone was perfect leverage to strengthen their position. That was why the school valued the incident so highly.
The principal believed that if the officials witnessed a parent personally thanking one of their students, it would be a perfect opportunity to promote the noble character of First High School’s students and show that their school fully met the requirements of an advanced school.
Boss Fang received a call from the school, saying they had found the student who helped his son and asking him to come to the school that afternoon.
Boss Fang finally breathed a sigh of relief.
The events of yesterday were still vivid in his mind. He even had a nightmare last night—his son hadn’t been saved, and the heart-wrenching panic in the dream left him trembling even after waking, soaked in cold sweat.
After he woke up, he immediately wrote the thank-you letter and wanted to personally thank the young girl who had done good without leaving her name.
Thinking of this, Boss Fang touched his son, who was quietly twisting a Rubik’s Cube beside him. “This afternoon, Daddy will take Happy to see the big sister from yesterday, alright?”
Little Kuaile liked yesterday’s big sister very much. Hearing his father’s words, his round eyes instantly lit up. In his soft, childish voice, he replied, “Okay, I want to give Big Sister candy.”
In the afternoon, the principal and the director welcomed the officials’ visit. Coincidentally, Boss Fang pushed Little Kuaile into the school at the same time.
This year, Third High School was a strong competitor. From the tone of the officials, the principal felt the competition might be tough. Seeing Boss Fang appear, he couldn’t help showing joy, hoping this would give the school an extra advantage.
The principal sent someone to call Zhao Youyou over.
When Zhao Youyou was called out of the classroom and heard that the parent who wrote the thank-you letter had arrived to thank her in person, she trembled all over in shock.
“Teacher, I… I still have class.”
“It’s alright, it’ll only take a moment. The parent brought the child and came here specifically to thank you. Come with me,” the teacher said.
Zhao Youyou didn’t want to go at all. She had never imagined the parent would actually come to the school. The moment they met face-to-face, everyone would know she had falsely claimed the credit.
She couldn’t go.
“What’s wrong? Don’t worry, your homeroom teacher has already agreed, and the principal is there too. Don’t keep everyone waiting.” This was a good thing; the teacher didn’t understand why this student was dragging her feet.
Hearing that the principal was also present, Zhao Youyou’s face instantly turned pale. On such a hot day, cold sweat seeped out along her back.
Boss Fang was describing yesterday’s danger to the principal and the officials. At the entrance of the lounge, the teacher who had just left came back leading a student inside.
The girl was wearing First High’s uniform, slender, head lowered.
Boss Fang immediately stood up.
The teacher saw Zhao Youyou keeping her head down and saying nothing. She quietly pushed her from behind. What was going on? With this timid, shrinking appearance, no one could associate her with the decisive act of dashing into the road to save someone.
Zhao Youyou’s shoulders trembled as she slowly lifted her head. Her eyes were filled with tears.
She was so scared she cried.
Boss Fang looked at the student in front of him and instinctively frowned. “This is not the person who saved my son. Did your school make a mistake?”
Compared to his son’s savior, this student looked completely different.
“She’s not the pretty Big Sister.”
Beside him, a soft childish voice piped up. Little Fang, his chubby hand holding two candies, couldn’t see Su Ci. His little mouth pouted.
The principal noticed the officials turning their eyes toward him. His expression twisted with embarrassment—utter humiliation.

In just one afternoon, the entire situation completely reversed.
The matter of Zhao Youyou falsely claiming the rescue was posted on the school forum, triggering a wave of public ridicule.
At her desk, Ling Hui looked at Zhao Youyou’s reddened eyes. She sighed, not knowing how to comfort her, and could only hand her some tissues.
“I really did help a little boy yesterday morning. He fell, and I helped him up and stopped the bleeding. When you asked me this morning if I saved a little boy, I thought you meant that incident. I didn’t know it would be such a coincidence.” Zhao Youyou explained to Ling Hui, her voice loud enough for the classmates around them to hear.
“Use your brain. Who writes a thank-you letter to the school just because someone helped their kid up?” someone sneered.
“Didn’t she go to the director’s office? I don’t believe the director didn’t ask clearly.”
“He definitely asked. She wanted to claim the credit, that’s all.”
“I heard there were reporters and officials there today. To get exposed on the spot for pretending to be someone’s savior—what a disgrace to our school.”
“I feel embarrassed just thinking about it. That parent said right there that the school got the wrong person. My toes curl from secondhand shame.”
“Wasn’t it said this morning she’d be on the Honor Board? She must’ve been blinded by vanity. She claimed the credit just to get on it.”
Hearing the discussions around her and feeling all those mocking gazes on her, Zhao Youyou’s face burned red. She cried even more softly out of shame.
“What’s she crying for? The unluckiest one is the real person she impersonated.”
“The one who should be crying is the principal. I heard when he escorted the officials out, his face was still green.”
“Suddenly I feel sorry for our principal.”
“Someone hug the principal.”
In the back, Su Ci was lying in Lu Zhe’s arms. Several people noticed her, but after a few surprised glances, no one said anything.
After all, Li Dongliang sat next to Lu Zhe. Whoever dared talk nonsense about the rabbit, the little tyrant would immediately jump up, looking ready to fight—practically a guardian knight of rabbits. No one dared make a sound.
Su Ci wiggled her little paws, the small jade gourd tied on top making her look even more delicate. She perked up her long ears, happily listening to the gossip about Zhao Youyou.
She didn’t expect that with just one afternoon, the female lead’s image had already collapsed?
When she heard them say the parent had brought a child in a wheelchair, Su Ci hadn’t expected that the melon she was eating would roll right onto her own head. So the “savior” they were talking about… was her.
Thinking of how she’d secretly worn Lu Zhe’s uniform yesterday, it was no wonder the parent had mistaken her for a First High student.
Zhao Youyou falsely claimed her credit—tsk, it served her right to get exposed on the spot and slapped in the face.
Hmph.
That moment had been so dangerous, and she had even fallen while trying to save the child. If Zhao Youyou had really taken the credit, she would’ve been furious to death.
Su Ci let out a soft sound as Lu Zhe’s long fingers lightly scratched her back, making her so comfortable she hummed. Her body remained soft and limp.
Earlier in class, he had listened to the lecture with one hand while using the other to gently pinch and play with the tip of her ear, making her feel weak the whole time.
She told him already—stop playing with her ears!
