Su Ci had not expected that she would really return to human form.
Standing before the old, faded wardrobe, she opened its door and found that Lu Zhe did not have many clothes. Among the few pieces, two sets were school uniforms.
With no other choice, Su Ci had to put on Lu Zhe’s school uniform.
Her current height was about the same as before she crossed over, probably around one meter sixty-eight. The white-and-blue school uniform hung loosely on her, wide and oversized. The hem fell to her thigh, and the pants were long as well. She rolled the cuffs up several times before revealing her snow-white, slender ankles tied with a red string.
Su Ci was extremely curious about what she looked like now. For a girl who loved beauty like her, she definitely hoped that her human appearance would be beautiful.
A small square mirror hung on the wall of the bathroom. Though not large, it was enough for Su Ci to clearly examine her appearance.
In the mirror, the girl had snowy skin and red lips, her features delicate, her eyes watery and bright. Beneath the corner of her eye was a small teardrop mole, adding a hint of enchantment and allure.
Before crossing over, she had been famous in the entertainment industry for her beauty, yet this face was even more beautiful than her previous one.
Her original looks leaned toward purity; just slightly reddened eyes were enough to make others feel distressed for her. But now her appearance held both innocence and desire. She lifted the corner of her eye, the teardrop mole making her gaze seem capable of hooking one’s soul — one look and people would be unable to move their eyes away.
Was this appearance really that of a little rabbit spirit, and not a fox spirit?
Su Ci touched her own cheek — fair, translucent, smooth, and delicate — making her reluctant to let go.
As for her figure, it needed no comment: her waist was slender, her chest abundant. Even in the loose school uniform, one could still see the noticeable curves.
The more Su Ci examined herself, the more satisfied she became. This body simply had no flaws. If she had to name a shortcoming, it was that it was too perfect.
She called out to Fugui, “Am I now the most beautiful woman in the world?”
Fugui: 【I don’t know.】
“Hmm?” Su Ci carried a threat in her tone.
Fugui trembled: 【In Fugui’s eyes, Master is the most beautiful in the world.】
Su Ci curved her lips. “How long does my restored time last?” She didn’t believe that kissing Lu Zhe once would allow her to maintain a human body indefinitely.
Fugui: 【Five hours. Each kiss adds one hour.】
Su Ci narrowed her eyes. “So that means the next time I kiss Lu Zhe, I can maintain six hours of human form, right?”
Fugui: 【Correct.】
Su Ci glanced at the clock on the wall. It was a little past seven. That meant she would turn back into a rabbit around noon, past twelve.
Time was running out.
The morning roads were busy, pedestrians hurrying by, rushing either to school or to work. Brilliant sunlight fell over the green trees lining the street, casting layers of shade.
A girl wearing an oversized, ill-fitting school uniform and shoes many sizes too big walked from afar. Her exquisite face made passersby turn their heads involuntarily.
Su Ci wanted to go out and eat breakfast, but she realized she didn’t have a single cent on her. When she passed by the breakfast shops earlier, the tempting smells had nearly made her cry from hunger.
So hungry!
She stopped at the intersection, waiting for the green light.
“Jiejie (sister) is so pretty.” Beside her, a soft, childish voice sounded.
Su Ci lowered her head and saw that it was actually Little Kuaile. Standing behind him was Boss Fang, busy on the phone.
“Jiejie is pretty.”
Little Kuaile’s big, jet-black eyes lit up when he saw Su Ci look his way. He reached a hand into his pocket, rummaging around before taking out two candies.
“Jiejie eat.”
Little Kuaile generously offered one candy to Su Ci.
Su Ci glanced at his chubby little hand, her gaze falling to the inside of his wrist. The life bar that had originally been a solid red line had now faded lighter and lighter, about to disappear. Beside it was marked: 30 seconds.
Su Ci’s eyes darkened.
Her heart suddenly skipped.
Little Kuaile’s white, tender face looked soft and angelic under the sunlight. “Jiejie eat candy.”
Whether she was a rabbit or a human again, Little Kuaile always liked giving Su Ci candy.
20 seconds.
17 seconds.
12 seconds.
The red line was so faint it was almost invisible.
Su Ci could hear her own heart thundering, her throat feeling blocked by something.
10 seconds.
Beside them, a young boy on roller shoes tripped on a step in the pavement. Losing control, he stumbled forward in their direction.
In his panic, the boy’s hand accidentally pushed Little Kuaile’s wheelchair toward the road.
Everyone watched in horror as the tiny wheelchair shot forward.
“Fugui!”
Su Ci’s brain stalled for a moment.
Boss Fang, still on the phone, looked ahead and saw a car approaching, about to hit his son’s wheelchair. His face drained of color.
“Ah!” Someone screamed in terror as they saw the child about to be run over.
The next second.
The miniature wheelchair was grabbed by an excessively fair hand.
Su Ci forcefully yanked the wheelchair backward. She rolled across the ground, narrowly dodging the car that grazed past her.
The wind from the passing car swept through her long hair.
The shoes were too big. When Su Ci lunged forward, she stumbled and fell hard onto the ground.
Just a little bit more, and she wouldn’t have been able to save Little Kuaile.
Boss Fang’s legs nearly gave out from fear.
He rushed to his son. After confirming his child was safe, he immediately turned toward the girl, wanting to help her up.
Su Ci ignored Boss Fang’s outstretched hand meant to help her up. She stood on her own and patted the dirt off her clothes.
“Thank you… girl, thank you so much.” Boss Fang’s voice trembled. He bowed deeply to Su Ci, overflowing with gratitude.
Just a little more, and his son would have been gone.
His legs were still weak, his hands still shaking.
Not far away, the young man on roller shoes was also stunned with fear. He had nearly killed someone.
The youth wasn’t very old. It was his first time facing something so frightening. He stammered as he apologized to Boss Fang, “I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…”
“Your carelessness almost killed my son! If not for this young lady…”
Thinking of how the car had grazed past the girl’s body just now — such a dangerously close call — Boss Fang took a deep breath and scolded harshly, “Isn’t the plaza or the park over there enough for you to skate? Why must you wear roller shoes on the main road? Do you have any idea how dangerous that is?”
“I’m sorry.” The young boy’s eyes turned red. He had been frightened too.
“I’m at fault as well. I should’ve held onto my son’s wheelchair tightly, not letting go for even a moment.” Boss Fang looked down at Little Kuaile, then began blaming himself again.
Everyone around sighed. No one had expected to witness something so dangerous on their morning commute.
Fortunately, the girl had saved the child.
And looking more closely at her now, they finally noticed how beautiful she was.
It truly matched the saying: a kind heart to match a pretty face. She had saved two families — the child’s father and the young skater.
Boss Fang hurriedly asked Su Ci again, “Girl, are you hurt? Should I take you to the hospital for a checkup? If you got injured from the fall, that won’t be good.”
At this moment, Boss Fang felt nothing but overwhelming gratitude toward Su Ci. His son was his life. By saving his child, she had become his life-saving benefactor.
“I’m fine.” Su Ci shook her head.
She had known that Little Kuaile’s life was about to end, so when the wheelchair shot forward, she reacted faster than anyone else.
“You’re my lifesaver… I truly don’t know how to repay you.” Boss Fang was still emotional, completely unsure how he could possibly thank the girl before him.
“No need.” She had only acted on instinct.
“Pretty jiejie eat candy.” Little Kuaile still held two candies in his chubby hand, unaware that he had just died once and lived again.
Su Ci lowered her eyes. On his wrist, the life bar had become seven yellow segments.
Little Kuaile now had at least seventy years of lifespan.
Su Ci picked up one of the candies from his hand. “Thank you.”
After leaving—
With the candy Little Kuaile gave her in her mouth, Su Ci asked Fugui, “Why did Little Kuaile’s lifespan become seventy years after he was saved?”
Fugui was eating a golden, fluffy, cotton-candy-like clump — its reward from Su Ci saving a life.
Fugui let out a satisfied burp: 【Once a death knot is undone, it returns to the lifespan it should naturally have.】
Su Ci narrowed her eyes. So, if Little Kuaile didn’t die this time, he should have originally lived into his seventies.
Fugui: 【Master, why did you save him?】 It had assumed its master wouldn’t save anyone.
Su Ci: “Didn’t you hear him call me pretty jiejie?”
Fugui: 【……】
So… did its master simply like hearing compliments?

At the computer shop.
Lu Zhe received a call from Boss Fang after school, asking him to come over.
Boss Fang had calmed down by then. He recounted the morning’s danger to Lu Zhe. “Thank goodness for that courageous young girl. Otherwise…”
He felt a wave of lingering fear.
Lu Zhe hadn’t expected such a thing to happen that morning.
He looked at Little Kuaile sitting beside him in the wheelchair. The little one had a sweet candy in his mouth, his eyes curved in happiness. Hearing his father’s words, he said in a soft childish voice, “Pretty jiejie ate Kuaile’s candy.”
Lu Zhe placed a cold hand on his head.
“A’Zhe, that little girl didn’t say anything. She just took one candy from Kuaile and left. I still haven’t properly thanked her for such a huge kindness.”
Boss Fang asked Lu Zhe, “She was wearing your school’s uniform, so she should be a student from No. 1 High. Her skin was really fair, and she looked very delicate. Do you know her?”
Lu Zhe stayed silent.
Boss Fang continued, “A girl that pretty must be very eye-catching at your school. She should be the school belle.” In his opinion, with looks like that, it would be hard for anyone to surpass her.
“I want to find her and properly thank her.” Such a great debt of gratitude couldn’t be brushed off casually.
Lu Zhe never paid much attention to girls at school, so he couldn’t answer immediately.
Clearly, Boss Fang knew Lu Zhe’s temperament and didn’t press further.
After wandering outside for a while, Su Ci returned to Lu Zhe’s home.
Only after going out did she realize that Lu Zhe lived in an old residential compound. There was barely any greenery, just an open-air parking lot and a bicycle shed with a rusted roof — everything looked quite worn down.
Entering the living room, Su Ci found in the fridge a piece of bread left overnight. It had turned cold and hard. She gnawed on it pitifully. If she wasn’t about to turn back into a rabbit, she would have cooked instant noodles — anything was better than chewing on cold bread.
She had just taken the last bite when the faint sound of a key turning came from the door.
Su Ci choked in fright. Lu Zhe was back?
Her body reacted faster than her brain. She got off the sofa, ran back into the room, heart pounding wildly. She looked down at her human body, then opened the wardrobe and hid inside.
Lu Zhe had left the computer shop and stopped by home to pick up something.
He walked to the refrigerator and took out a bottle of water. Just as he was about to twist it open, he noticed that the bread inside was gone.
Closing the fridge, holding the water bottle with long fingers, he turned around and his gaze landed on the sofa. There was a transparent plastic bag there.
The bag had oil stains and bread crumbs on it.
His eyes darkened. After scanning the room, he strode toward the bedroom.
He found that the cardboard box originally placed on the floor had been crushed and the rabbit inside was gone.
His stiff, cold face sank into an icy expression. Lu Zhe’s fierce gaze fell on the wardrobe.
Inside the wardrobe, Su Ci hugged her legs. Her long, black, silky hair draped naturally down her back. Her small, fair face made her look inexplicably pitiful, like a little stray.
Why was she even hiding?
Su Ci pressed her lips together, trying hard to suppress her wildly pounding heart. It wasn’t like she was afraid of Lu Zhe! She just didn’t know how to face him all of a sudden in her human form.
Outside, Lu Zhe licked his teeth lightly. He reached out and directly pulled open the wardrobe door.
Inside the wardrobe, a snow-white fluffball sat quietly atop his clothes, a pair of red eyes staring blankly at him.
Lu Zhe: ……
How did the rabbit get into his wardrobe?
Lu Zhe leaned in and picked up the rabbit. The next second, his gaze paused. He lifted his school uniform, only to see a black smudge rubbed across the back.
He sniffed it — a gasoline smell.
Su Ci froze. She must have brushed against gasoline on the road while saving Little Kuaile.
She lifted her head and, feeling guilty, glanced up at Lu Zhe. But all she saw was his cold, sharp jawline — she couldn’t see the expression on his face.
The next day, the classroom was lively.
When Zhao Youyou arrived at her seat, her deskmate Ling Hui immediately leaned over. “Youyou, I heard our school received a thank-you letter from an outsider. They said a very beautiful girl from our school saved his son, and the principal is taking it very seriously.”
Ling Hui gave Zhao Youyou a knowing look. “Everyone is guessing whether it was you or the school belle who saved him, but I know it was you. You were the only one who took leave yesterday.” She hugged Zhao Youyou’s arm. “Youyou, I’m right, aren’t I? You were the one who saved him, right?”
Zhao Youyou thought of how she had helped a child who fell yesterday morning on her way out. She nodded.
