Early in the morning, Su Ci was woken up by the laughter of children.
Coming out of the room, she saw several kids playing around Fat Fu.
Not far away, another group of children were gathered around Lu Zhe. A few of them stood before the fence, doing something she couldn’t quite see.
Su Ci walked over. The children around Lu Zhe saw her and looked at her with shy, curious expressions. One fair little girl couldn’t help herself and said in a soft, milky voice, “Jiejie is so pretty.”
“I know, I know, she’s Angel Jiejie,” the boy beside her cut in quickly.
Another boy in a little red shirt retorted, “She’s Immortal Jiejie.” His cheeks were flushed red, a bit shy, not daring to look at Su Ci directly.
Su Ci received so many sweet compliments first thing in the morning that her still-drowsy dark eyes brightened. She nodded approvingly, “You all have eyes that can discover beauty. Such good eyesight, truly the adorable flowers of our motherland.”
Hearing the praise, the little girl beside her smiled with crescent-shaped eyes. “Pretty Jiejie says Tutu is amazing.”
“I’m amazing too.”
“I’m the most amazing…” The little radish-heads scrambled to crowd around her.
With just her beautiful face, Su Ci instantly blended into the circle of children. She was about to show off to Lu Zhe, but when she turned her head, she saw Lu Zhe lifting a white rabbit from inside the fence.
How could he hold another rabbit!
Su Ci walked over, her gaze critical as she looked at the big white rabbit in Lu Zhe’s hands. “Its fur isn’t pure enough, not smooth either. Its eyes are dull, and its body is too plump.”
“This rabbit is not cute at all.” Su Ci concluded her assessment.
Lu Zhe said, “It’s very gentle.”
Su Ci stared straight at the large hand touching the rabbit. “Lu Zhe, are you planning to cheat with another rabbit?”
She leaned closer to him.
Seeing Lu Zhe’s fingers brush the rabbit’s ears, she instantly felt sour. She remembered how he used to love pinching her own rabbit ears.
Su Ci gave a light snort, glaring at the rabbit with its vacant expression in Lu Zhe’s hands. “We’re eating braised rabbit head tonight!”
“No eating rabbit, you can’t eat rabbit!” The little girl beside her shook her head in terror.
“Rabbit is a friend, you can’t eat it, it’s so well-behaved,” the boy in red quickly tried to persuade Su Ci.
Lu Zhe looked at Su Ci with an unreadable expression, a faint coaxing hidden in his cool voice. “Stop messing around. You can’t eat your own kind.”
Su Ci: …
She was furious!
Su Ci called out Fugui. “Lu Zhe is so awful, hugging another rabbit right in front of me!”
Fugui grew excited. 【Too much, Master. This is cheating behavior. You can’t allow it.】
Su Ci’s eyes curved slightly at the corners.
Fugui began executing its plan to sow discord: 【Master, punish Lu Zhe. Next time don’t give him all the golden cotton candy.】
Preferably leave half for Fugui.
Su Ci didn’t respond to it.
She snatched the rabbit from Lu Zhe’s hands and tossed it into the arms of the little boy in red. She looked exactly like an evil witch from a fairy tale. “Hurry and take this ugly rabbit away, or I’m eating spicy rabbit head tonight.”
The little boy quickly hugged the rabbit tight. “Jiejie is bad, you can’t eat rabbit. Let’s go hide it.” Saying that, the little radish-heads scampered off, clutching the rabbit as if fleeing for their lives.
Su Ci took the initiative to grab Lu Zhe’s hand, pulling him toward the washing station. She turned on the faucet, pushed his hand under the water, and said, “You touched another rabbit. You need to wash your hands clean.”
Lu Zhe lowered his eyes, watching the girl’s fair, soft hands rubbing his large palm under the running water.
“You care this much that I held another rabbit?” He found it somewhat amusing.
After rubbing a few times, Su Ci felt that Lu Zhe’s hand was clean.
She turned off the faucet, shook the water off his hand for him, and glared up at him with her dark eyes full of grievance. “You’re too greedy. You already have me, yet you go hugging other rabbits. Are other rabbits as cute as me? As pretty as me?”
Su Ci leaned closer to Lu Zhe. She lifted his freshly washed hand and pressed it against her cheek. “You can only touch me. Only hug me!”
Hugging other rabbits was absolutely not allowed!
The girl’s face was fair and smooth, delicate to the touch, soft—rubbing against his palm until it grew warm.
How could such a little enchantress exist? Clearly her demand was unreasonable and domineering, yet she made it feel so rightful that refusing her became difficult.
Lu Zhe asked her in a low voice, “And what if I don’t agree?”
Su Ci glared at him fiercely. “You hug one rabbit, and I’ll eat spicy rabbit head once!”
Lu Zhe let out a low laugh.
Only then did Su Ci realize that when Lu Zhe laughed, there was a faint little dimple on his left cheek. She stared at it for a few more seconds, liking it far too much.
The boy’s dimple must have been filled with honey—why else would it be so sweet?

After the old director woke up, Lu Zhe and Fat Fu went to see her.
Su Ci wandered around the orphanage alone. She heard that more than twenty children lived here—some old enough for junior high, some only one or two years old.
Looking at those innocent, adorable little faces, Su Ci couldn’t understand how anyone could bear to abandon them.
She thought of Lu Zhe. Was he also left at an orphanage?
Su Ci stepped into a classroom.
Inside were neat rows of desks and chairs, clearly the place where the kids usually studied and ate. In the corner beside the podium stood a piano. Its exterior was somewhat worn; she wondered if some kind-hearted person had donated it.
Su Ci walked over and sat down before the piano.
Her slender fingers danced across the keys, and the pleasant sound slowly filled the orphanage.
When the piece ended, several little radish-heads were already standing beside her, staring up with big, shiny, curious eyes.
“Does it sound nice?” Su Ci asked them.
“It sounds nice. Jiejie, are you an angel?” The little boy thought the sister before him was very pretty.
Su Ci shook her head. “Angels save the world and help everyone.” But she didn’t.
“Then what is Jiejie?” The little girl beside him looked at Su Ci in confusion.
“Jiejie is a beautiful yaojing. If a child doesn’t behave, I’ll eat him.” Su Ci looked at them. “Are you well-behaved?”
“Behave, I’m the most well-behaved.”
“Baby is well-behaved too.”
“We’ll listen to Jiejie, don’t eat me.”
Tsk, children were really easy to coax—much easier than Lu Zhe.
“He’s dying.” At that moment, a little boy pointed toward the corner. “Jiejie, Zhen Tiancai is dying, you should eat him.”
Su Ci looked over and finally noticed a child sitting there.
“Why is he dying?” Su Ci asked.
“The caretaker Jiejie said Tiancai’s heart has a problem. If it stops beating, he’ll die.” The slightly older boy beside him told her.
Su Ci blinked.
A heart condition?
She walked to the corner and saw that this little boy called Tiancai was very good-looking. His face was a bit pale, and his black eyes stared blankly at her, very quiet.
Su Ci recalled what the old director mentioned last night about Lu Zhe’s childhood. Was Lu Zhe back then just like the little boy in front of her—sitting alone in this corner, watching the other children play?
“Your name is Zhen Tiancai?” She leaned against the wall and sat down beside him, imitating the boy’s posture. She was wearing long pants today, so she wasn’t worried about exposing anything.
The little boy, Zhen Tiancai, nodded, his eyes filled with puzzled curiosity toward the unfamiliar sister.
“Why aren’t you playing with the other kids?” Su Ci asked.
Zhen Tiancai shook his head.
“I heard from the other kids that you’re sick, right?”
The light in Zhen Tiancai’s round black eyes dimmed. He nodded. “I’m going to die soon.” He had secretly overheard others saying he wouldn’t live long.
The child’s tender voice made Su Ci pause.
She reached over and turned his small hand over. On his wrist, the life value showed six yellow squares, meaning he still had sixty years of lifespan.
Su Ci smiled.
“No.” Su Ci patted his head. “You won’t die.”
Zhen Tiancai stared at her with wide doubt-filled eyes.
“Do you know who I am?” Su Ci asked.
Zhen Tiancai shook his head again.
“I’m an angel.” Su Ci looked at him with a bright smile. “Pretty Angel Jiejie is telling you—you won’t die. You will live for a very, very long time.”
Zhen Tiancai’s eyes widened, shining with a light of happiness and disbelief.
Su Ci held out her little finger. “Angels don’t lie. If you don’t believe me, I’ll pinky swear with you.”
Zhen Tiancai trembled slightly as he stretched out his tiny finger and hooked it with Su Ci’s.
Su Ci tightened the hook of their fingers. “Little Tiancai can live for a very, very long time—just as long as the other children. So you can do all the things you want to do, without worrying about dying.”
Zhen Tiancai’s big eyes sparkled like little stars. He nodded hard. “Mm.”
Angel Jiejie said he wouldn’t die.
Su Ci felt that children were truly too easy to coax. If only Lu Zhe were this easy to coax, then asking him for kisses would be so much simpler.
She headed outside and happened to see Lu Zhe coming to find her.
“Go back to the room and get your suitcase. We’ll go to the police station later to get your ID card processed.” Orphans, with the proper documents from the orphanage, could apply for an ID at the local police station once they reached adulthood. He had just asked the director to prepare the certification.
“Are we going back?” Su Ci asked him.
“Mm. We’ll return once we’re done.” There were still things to handle at Fat Fu Restaurant; they couldn’t delay too long.
Inside the car.
Su Ci rolled down the window and looked outside at those pure, innocent little faces. They waved at her with all their strength, shouting goodbye—especially Zhen Tiancai. The little guy stood behind several kids, smiling shyly. He told her, “Goodbye, Angel Jiejie.”
Su Ci smiled. These little radish-heads were truly adorable. She hoped they could all grow up happily.
When they reached the local police station, the one handling their case was a female officer. She asked Su Ci to fill out a form and submit her photo.
In the end, Su Ci left the address of the place where she and Lu Zhe were staying. After the ID card was completed, the station would mail it to her.
After Su Ci and the others left, the female officer stared at the girl in the photo, feeling that she had seen her somewhere before.
“Why are you staring at someone’s photo like that? Something wrong with it?” The male officer beside her nudged her with his elbow. “But really, this girl is incredibly pretty. Seems like I’ve seen her somewhere.”
“You feel she’s familiar too?” the female officer asked.
“A girl this pretty—I wouldn’t forget if I’d seen her.” The male officer still couldn’t recall. “Forget it. Don’t think too much. Let’s get back to work.”
The female officer put the photo aside and prepared to enter the information. Her gaze landed on the name the girl had written earlier.
Su Ci?
The female officer frowned. Suddenly, she grabbed the photo and shot to her feet. She remembered where she had seen this girl—this was the Su family’s missing daughter!
On the way back, Su Ci received several calls from her agent, Xu Duo. He asked if she was willing to record a food program, only three episodes.
